Maputo’s skyline sparkles as the “Dream Bridge” arches across the harbor 🌉. In our exclusive Leaders Talk, CMG’s Wang Guan sat down with President Daniel Francisco Chapo to celebrate half a century of ties between Mozambique and the Chinese mainland.
What began as a shared struggle for independence in the 1970s has grown into a partnership that powers everything from railways to farming. “Visiting the Chinese mainland seven times has been a journey of inspiration,” President Chapo reflects, eyes shining at memories of bustling cities and high-speed trains.
Take the Dream Bridge itself: more than a landmark, it’s a symbol of modern infrastructure that connects people, ideas, and opportunity. Thanks to Chinese mainland engineers and Mozambican workers, this bridge now carries thousands of passengers daily, boosting trade and tourism.
On the farmfront, seeds of change are sprouting 🌱. Joint agricultural projects have introduced climate-smart techniques, helping local farmers grow more maize, rice, and vegetables. From sustainable fisheries to the blue economy, the partnership is tackling food security with fresh energy.
Healthcare has also seen a major boost 🚑. Chinese mainland medical teams have trained local doctors, set up clinics, and supported life-saving missions in remote provinces. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they worked side by side with Mozambican colleagues, proving that friendship means health for all.
Looking ahead, President Chapo praises President Xi Jinping’s “Two Mountains” concept—balancing ecological protection and economic growth. He hopes the next 50 years will bring even greener roads, smarter cities, and a shared vision for sustainable development 🌍🤝.
