Beijing Hosts Inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games

Robots are taking the spotlight in Beijing! 🤖 The first World Humanoid Robot Games kicked off at the Chinese mainland’s National Speed Skating Oval, bringing together 280 teams from 16 countries and regions, including the USA, Germany, and Italy.

Over three days, machines will compete in 26 categories and 538 events—from athletic shows like running, long jump, free exercises, and football, to real-world tasks such as moving materials, sorting medications, and cleaning spaces. It’s a high-energy mix of sports and skills challenges designed to push robots to their limits.

Li Yechuan from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology explains that this competition borrows formats from human sports to create an “extreme test” for intelligent decision-making and coordinated movement.

Li Zhiqi of the Beijing Municipal Government Counsellors’ Office adds that the Games are more than just a showcase: they’re a crucial step to moving humanoid robots out of the lab and into factories, hospitals, homes, and beyond, paving the way for mass production.

This event follows the 2025 World Robot Conference, which opened on August 8 under the theme “Making Robots Smarter, Making Embodied Agents More Intelligent.” It’s all part of a bigger push to unlock the future of AI and robotics.
