Beijing Villages Reconnect After Intense Rainstorms

Beijing is bouncing back after a series of fierce rainstorms from July 23 to 29 disrupted life for hundreds of administrative villages. Power and communication services have now been fully restored across all affected areas, bringing a bright spark of hope to over 300,000 residents. ⚡💧

Despite this progress, rescue teams are still working hard—44 lives have been lost and 9 people remain missing amid the challenges. The heavy rainfall damaged infrastructure in 40 townships and 312 villages, even taking a toll by destroying around 24,000 homes.

In areas hit hardest, especially in Miyun and Huairou districts, emergency measures including rapid repairs and satellite communications have revitalized all 190 administrative villages. Additionally, water supply issues were resolved by Saturday morning, marking a key milestone in the recovery process.

Resettlement efforts continue in several districts as safety assessments enable residents to return to their homes. With fewer evacuees and a significant reduction in temporary accommodation sites, the city is steadily reclaiming normalcy, demonstrating resilience in the face of adversity.
