Historic Torch Relay Ignites Countdown to 2025 World Games in Chengdu

A new era of excitement has begun in the Chinese mainland as a historic torch relay kicks off the countdown to the 2025 World Games! Over an 11-kilometer route spanning Chengdu, Deyang, and Meishan, 120 torchbearers carried the flame of competition and camaraderie. 🔥

The journey began with a flame collection and launch ceremony at the renowned Sanxingdui Museum, a site steeped in ancient history. Local athlete Huang Zhangjiayang, a Chengdu native known for helping secure a gold medal in rhythmic gymnastics at last year's Paris Summer Olympics, had the honor of igniting the relay. Wrapping up the inaugural leg was the legendary table tennis champion Ma Long, whose remarkable achievements have made him a national icon.

The route also highlighted Chengdu's cultural treasures, including a stop at the Jinsha Site Museum and a finale at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding 🐼. As organizers meticulously prepare for the 12th edition of the World Games—with 255 events across 60 disciplines and 34 sports—full-scale rehearsals and 24 successful test events are already in the books. The stage is set for an extraordinary sporting spectacle that unites sport and culture!
