The conflict began a week ago with clashes between Bedouin and Druze fighters. Damascus had sent troops in an effort to quash the unrest, but after accusations of widespread violations and being hit by Israeli strikes, the troops eventually withdrew under a truce agreed on Wednesday.
The United States has also stepped up calls for an end to the fighting, adding international pressure to stabilize the situation. While the withdrawal may signal a temporary respite, rebuilding essential services and community trust remains a pressing challenge for the people of Sweida.
