In the pool, China's Ai Yanhan and Liu Shuhan advanced from the women's 100-meter freestyle semifinals after helping secure a silver in the 4×100m freestyle final. Not to be outdone, South Africa's Pieter Coetze set a new record in the men's 100m backstroke semifinals with a blazing 52.18 seconds, and the USA's Leah Shackley shattered an event record en route to gold in the women's 200m backstroke.

On the fencing piste, individual neutral athlete Dmitrii Shvelidze clinched the men's epee gold by edging out Hungary's Soma Somody 15-11, while Italy's Aurora Grandis matched that scoreline to triumph in the women's foil final against South Korea's Mo Byeoli.
