Hey everyone 👋, exciting news in global diplomacy! Chinese envoy Li Song recently introduced the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) during the 58th session of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) in Vienna. This pioneering initiative is set to become the world’s first intergovernmental legal hub dedicated exclusively to mediation.
According to Li Song, mediation is a key method for peacefully resolving disputes – a principle clearly supported by the UN Charter. IOMed will offer services for disputes between states, commercial or investment disagreements between a state and a national of another state, and even international disputes between private parties, provided all involved express mutual consent.
UNCITRAL Secretary Anna Joubin-Bret recalled witnessing the signing ceremony of the IOMed convention in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region earlier this year. She expressed optimism that closer cooperation with UNCITRAL will further advance the international rule of law.
This new chapter in mediation isn’t just about legal solutions; it’s about building bridges across nations. It offers a fresh approach that resonates with young leaders, professionals, students, and cultural explorers eager to see positive change in global affairs. Stay tuned as IOMed inspires peaceful resolution and constructive dialogue around the world! ✌️
