Chinese Women’s Basketball Stumbles Against Australia in Warm-Up Game

In an electrifying warm-up match for the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup, the Chinese women’s basketball team fell to Australia 76-63 on Sunday at Haikou. This defeat marked their first loss after a five-game winning streak in the series, where victories against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Japan had set high expectations.

Right from the tip-off, Han Xu sparked the action by scoring the opening two points, setting a fast pace. However, once she left the court, Australia took full advantage of the defensive gaps. By the end of the first quarter, China trailed 28-19, as Australia unleashed an aggressive offensive attack.

The second quarter saw China struggle to find its rhythm, contending with pesky turnovers and costly fouls while Australia extended their lead to 18 points by halftime. After the break, sparks flew as Yang Liwei and Luo Xinyu knocked down multiple three-pointers, narrowing the gap to just 7 points. Despite the spirited comeback, Australia sealed the win with a burst of back-to-back three-pointers.

Han Xu led the Chinese side with 15 points and 9 rebounds, while Australia boasted three players in double digits, including Isabelle Bourne who also finished with 15 points. 🏀

The showdown isn’t over—both teams are set to meet again on Tuesday in Changsha. With the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2025 on the horizon in Shenzhen from July 13 to 20, fans can expect more high-energy clashes and riveting basketball action!
