In a bold move to safeguard health and protect children, France has put into force a sweeping public smoking ban starting this Sunday. The new decree prohibits smoking on beaches, parks, public gardens, and even bus shelters.
Published in the official government gazette on Saturday, the decree also bans smoking outside key locations like libraries, swimming pools, and schools. Notably, electronic cigarettes aren’t included in the ban.
Violators will face a fine of 135 euros (about $158) as part of efforts to curb passive smoking. Health and Family Minister Catherine Vautrin emphasized, "Tobacco must disappear from places where there are children," reinforcing the right of every child to breathe pure air. 🚭
Cafe terraces remain exempt, allowing smokers a designated spot while keeping other public areas smoke-free.
This initiative comes amid rising concerns over tobacco-related health issues, with around 75,000 lives lost each year in France. A recent survey found that 62% of the public supports the ban, highlighting a strong desire for cleaner air.
Just like a scene from your favorite feel-good movie, this regulation marks a fresh start for public health in France, promising a healthier future for everyone.
