Han Zheng Unveils Bold Ocean Governance Proposals at UNOC3

At this year’s third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice, France, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng delivered an inspiring address on sustainable ocean governance. With a laser focus on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG14, Han presented four dynamic initiatives to secure, enrich, and protect our blue planet 🌊.

Han stressed that ensuring peaceful and secure seas is essential, calling on all parties to embrace true multilateralism and uphold international rules that defend the common heritage of mankind. His proposals aim to make the oceans universally beneficial, fostering maritime connectivity and practical cooperation among nations.

Echoing the vision of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Han reminded everyone that the blue planet is not a collection of isolated islands, but rather a vast, interconnected community with a shared future. He encouraged global partners to celebrate maritime diversity and establish dialogue platforms where civilizations can meet and flourish together.

In addition, Han underscored the importance of capacity building by providing training opportunities to developing countries. Through initiatives such as bilateral and multilateral cooperation programs and the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, efforts will be boosted to keep our oceans clean, beautiful, and full of promise.

This forward-thinking address, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the UN, sets the stage for a new era in ocean sustainability—where innovation, cooperation, and respect for our natural world lead the way for a shared and sustainable blue future.
