Newsom Slams Tariffs: Small Biz Under Siege

California Governor Gavin Newsom has raised the alarm over the devastating impact of tariffs imposed under the Trump administration. In a candid podcast chat with Ben Meiselas of MeidasTouch Network, Newsom warned that the damage to small businesses is severe and could worsen if current measures persist.

Newsom described the situation as a "chaotic moment" marked by supply shortages and crippling uncertainty. He recounted stories from local entrepreneurs – one selling baby products facing the possibility of losing her home, and another family-run business owner struggling despite having a full container of inventory. "This is real. It's consequential," Newsom asserted, emphasizing that the impact is felt most acutely by small businesses. 😟

Recent federal court rulings have blocked key tariff measures, offering a glimmer of hope. U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras ruled that President Trump lacked the unilateral power to impose tariffs on two Illinois toy importers, and similar decisions were made by the U.S. Court of International Trade. However, an appellate stay has temporarily reinstated these tariffs while litigation continues.

Despite these legal twists, Newsom stressed that the toll on small businesses is irreversible if the tariffs remain in place. His passionate critique, calling the policies "ego-driven" and "self-inflicted," resonates with those facing economic uncertainty, urging a swift policy revision to protect livelihoods across California and beyond.
