Exciting news in Asian diplomacy! On Thursday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Surakiart Sathirathai, chairman of the Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council (APRC), in Hong Kong SAR during the signing ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed).
Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, explained that the IOMed offers a fresh way for the international community to resolve disputes voluntarily. He emphasized that this initiative reinforces multilateralism and aligns with the spirit of the United Nations Charter.
Highlighting regional collaboration, he mentioned that China is working with Asian nations through mechanisms like China-ASEAN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, and the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, all aimed at safeguarding the hard-won peace and stability in Asia.
Surakiart expressed his honor in witnessing the launch of IOMed and described the Chinese initiative as a timely response to current global challenges. The APRC looks forward to strengthening collaboration with the Chinese side to boost peace and development across Asia.
