On June 1, in celebration of International Children's Day, the Shenzhou-20 crew aboard the Chinese space station reached out to inspire young dreamers back on Earth 🚀. As the ninth national congress of the Chinese Young Pioneers was held in Beijing, the crew unfurled a CYP flag from space, sending heartfelt greetings to children across the country.
Veteran astronaut Chen Dong, commanding the mission, recalled his childhood dreams sparked by wearing the CYP red scarf. "I remember deciding to become someone useful to society when I first wore it," he shared, reminding us that a little inspiration can light up a lifetime.
Rookie astronauts Chen Zhongrui and Wang Jie, both on their maiden spaceflight, also reminisced about their early fascination with the cosmos—Chen Zhongrui, who completed his first extravehicular activity on May 22, recalled watching Shenzhou launches on television, while Wang Jie mentioned the empowering CYP anthem that continues to uplift generations.
Since launching on April 24 for a six-month mission, the Shenzhou-20 crew has not only completed a record-setting extravehicular activity but also successfully conducted in-orbit handover with the Shenzhou-19 crew. Their blend of technical achievements and personal reflections makes this Children’s Day celebration truly out of this world!
