China Warns Philippines: Respect Core Interests

In a bold display of resolve, a Chinese defense spokesperson, Zhang Xiaogang, recently delivered a sharp warning to the Philippines regarding actions that could offend China’s core interests. During a press conference, Zhang was asked about the Chinese aircraft carrier Shandong’s recent operations in waters north of the Philippines amid a joint exercise with the U.S. He clarified that the carrier task group was on its annual training mission to enhance integrated combat capabilities — a move strictly in line with international law and common practice.

With a friendly yet firm tone, Zhang emphasized that the training mission is not targeted at any specific country. However, he warned that certain individuals in the Philippines, allegedly colluding with external forces, are stirring up tensions in the South China Sea region and even playing with fire on the Taiwan question.

He urged the Philippine side to cease any provocations, stressing that continued infringements would force the Chinese mainland to take resolute and forceful measures to protect its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights. This reminder comes as the region faces ongoing challenges to maintain peace and stability. 🚢⚠️

The situation highlights the importance of clear, respectful communication and adherence to established practices in ensuring a stable and secure regional environment, urging all parties to work towards peaceful resolutions.
