Spain’s housing scene is heating up as locals face forced evictions amid a surge in tourist let conversions. Jaime Oteyza, a resident of Tribulete Street No.7 for 12 years, voices his concerns as his family struggles with soaring rent and home prices.
With two young children – including little Maya, just two years old – and despite stable jobs in architecture and psychology, Jaime explains that the rising costs mean losing their home could double the financial burden, especially when finding another quality spot near their children’s school seems next to impossible.
The frustration grows as an investment fund known as Elix Rental Homes, often labeled by locals as a "vulture fund," has bought the entire block of 52 flats with plans to convert them into luxury apartments and tourist lets. One poignant remark from the community sums it up: "They want us out for tourist lets."
As Spain’s housing crisis intensifies, residents are left questioning how to balance profitable developments with the vital need for affordable, family-friendly homes. The challenge is real, and the fight to preserve community and local culture is only just beginning 😱🏘.
