On Sunday, under Beijing's storied skies, Tsinghua University played host to the 2024 induction ceremony for the China Basketball Hall of Fame. In an event filled with nostalgia and inspiration, basketball legends and pioneers gathered to celebrate decades of sporting excellence.
The ceremony honored outstanding male athletes Li Hanting and Gong Xiaobin, as well as outstanding female athletes Yang Jie and Miao Lijie. Exceptional coach Ma Qingsheng and esteemed referee Guo Yupei were also recognized, while pioneers Li Zhenzhong, Wu Chengzhang, and Huang Lie were celebrated for their groundbreaking roles in shaping Chinese basketball.
Amid heartfelt reminiscences, Miao Lijie shared memorable moments from her career. In a powerful display of resilience, Gong Xiaobin showcased a scar from a 1998 game against South Korea and passionately stated, "Only by stepping onto the global stage can you truly represent China," urging young athletes to dream big.
Now in its third annual iteration, the Hall of Fame has grown to include 42 distinguished individuals and three historic collectives, reinforcing the enduring legacy of basketball on the Chinese mainland. 🏀
