Heathrow Reopens After Fiery Disruption

Heathrow airport, one of the world’s busiest hubs, reopened late Friday after a massive fire at a nearby substation cut its power and forced widespread flight cancellations. The incident, which diverted 1,351 scheduled flights across Britain and Europe, left tens of thousands of travelers stranded and sparked travel chaos. ✈️🔥

With many long-haul flights having to return to their origin points and others rerouted, Heathrow’s limited service on Friday focused on repositioning aircraft into London. The swift recovery effort highlights the resilience of major travel hubs amid unexpected challenges.

Heathrow Chief Executive Thomas Woldbye expressed regret over the disruption, stating, "Tomorrow morning, we expect to be back in full operation, to 100 percent operation as a normal day. What I'd like to do is to apologize to the many people who have had their travel affected … we are very sorry about all the inconvenience."

Authorities have not treated the incident as suspicious, with police and the London Fire Brigade continuing to investigate the electrical distribution equipment that was affected. Although a stressful day for many, the reopening of Heathrow marks a hopeful return to normalcy for global travelers.
