China's economy has made remarkable strides in 2024, showcasing steady progress and robust high-quality development. Liu Jieyi, spokesperson for the third session of the 14th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, shared these exciting updates during a press conference on Monday.
In a standout year, China's gross domestic product (GDP) surged to a record 134 trillion yuan (approximately $18.38 trillion), marking a 5-percent year-on-year increase. This impressive growth places China among the top performers among major global economies.
The year witnessed the emergence of new industries and innovative business models. The advancement of smart manufacturing and smart products is accelerating at an unprecedented pace, with daily and monthly developments reshaping the market. Additionally, green productivity is booming, as China takes the lead in wind power, photovoltaics, and new energy vehicles, driving sustainable growth forward.
Consumer spending also showed strong momentum during the Spring Festival holiday. Sales revenues from household appliances and audiovisual equipment skyrocketed by 166.4 percent compared to last year, while tourism-related services saw a significant increase of 37.5 percent.
These achievements underscore China's commitment to moving steadily along the path of high-quality development, ensuring a resilient and dynamic economy for the future.
