Chinese freestyle skier Li Fanghui made history at the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) Freeski World Cup event in Calgary, Canada. 🏂 She clinched the women's halfpipe gold medal, marking her first-ever World Cup victory and securing the season's halfpipe Crystal Globe.
In an unprecedented moment for the sport, Li and Britain's Zoe Atkin finished the season tied atop the halfpipe World Cup standings with 305 points each. According to FIS, this is the first time in freeski World Cup history that two athletes have shared the Crystal Globe. 🥇🥇
During the event, Li delivered a dominant performance, scoring 90.50 points. Atkin followed with 87.75 points, while Canada's Rachael Karker took home bronze with 87.00 points.
\"I was really happy and excited. Last season, I didn't perform very well, but I've been making progress all year, and I'm proud of myself,\" Li shared, admitting she didn't immediately realize she had secured the season title after the event.
Li's triumph in Calgary comes on the heels of her success at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China. She won the hosts' first gold medal in the Games' women's halfpipe event on February 8 before heading to Canada for the World Cup.
