Exciting news from China's energy sector! 🎉 The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced that its billion-tonne Bozhong 26-6 Oilfield Development Project (Phase I) has officially started production in the northern Bohai Sea.
Located offshore in the central Bohai Bay, the oilfield sits in waters averaging 20 meters deep. By 2025, it’s set to reach a peak production of around 22,300 barrels of oil equivalent daily. The oil produced is light crude, which is great for refining into various products.
The Phase I project boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including a new central processing platform and an unmanned wellhead platform, making operations more efficient and safer. 🛠️
Liu Jingliang, director of Bozhong 26-6 Oilfield at CNOOC Tianjin Branch, shared, \"For Phase I of Bozhong 26-6 Oilfield Development Project, we plan to develop 33 wells and put them into production. And the peak daily production of oil and gas equivalent is expected to exceed 3,500 cubic meters.\"
This oilfield is a game-changer, holding an accumulative 200 million cubic meters of petroleum, making it the world's largest metamorphic oilfield. The reservoirs are nestled deep beneath seabed hills, composed mainly of metamorphic rocks.
Thanks to standardized engineering practices, it only took three years from discovery to production—a swift turnaround that highlights CNOOC's commitment to energy development. 🌟
The Bohai Oilfield region is thriving, with over 50 oil and gas fields currently in production and more than 200 production facilities. In 2024 alone, the region saw steady growth, maintaining crude oil production above 30 million tonnes for three consecutive years and exceeding a cumulative oil and gas equivalent production of 600 million tonnes.
Looking ahead, the Bohai Oilfield continues to explore and develop, having discovered 6 billion tonne oil and gas fields in recent years. This momentum underscores China's pivotal role in the global energy landscape.
