The search and rescue mission is nearing its end after a powerful magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on Tuesday morning, officials announced on Wednesday.
💪 The focus is now shifting toward helping residents rebuild and recover. \\"We'll spare no effort in searching for those still unaccounted for and treating the injured,\\" said Hong Li, head of the regional emergency management department, during a press conference.
Over 10,000 rescuers 🚑 were dispatched swiftly, successfully finding and rescuing 407 people. Wang Fanghong, mayor of Xigaze (which administers Dingri), reported that 187 emergency shelters have been set up, providing safe haven for 46,500 relocated residents. 🙏
Tourists visiting the area, including 13 foreigners, have all safely returned to Xigaze. That's 484 travelers who can rest easy after this unexpected event! ✨
To support those affected, the central authorities have sent a substantial second batch of supplies: 20,000 items like quilts and folding beds, 2,000 bunkhouses, and 200,000 winter essentials. 🧥
Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by this quake as they start the journey toward recovery. Stay strong, Xizang! ❤️
