China and Japan just wrapped up some big-time talks in Beijing! 🇨🇳🇯🇵 On Monday, China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, met with Takeo Akiba, the secretary general of Japan’s National Security Secretariat. They had some serious discussions under the China-Japan high-level political dialogue mechanism.
Wang Yi mentioned that China-Japan relations are at a critical stage of improvement. He emphasized that both countries should follow the agreements made by their leaders, keep moving in the right direction, and build a constructive and stable relationship that fits the new era. He also urged Japan to have an objective and rational understanding of China. Wang Yi asked the Japanese side to respect their political commitments on the Taiwan question and to safeguard the foundation of their relations. He encouraged Japan to take real actions to implement the important consensus of “being each other’s cooperation partners rather than threats,” and to promote steady and long-term development of their ties.
