In a tragic turn of events, the city of Zixing in central China's Hunan Province has been hit hard by torrential rains since late July, leading to the loss of 50 lives and leaving 15 people missing, local authorities reported on Monday.
The record-breaking downpour, a lingering effect of Typhoon Gaemi, ⛈️ has caused over 65,000 landslides and collapses, toppling the homes of more than 1,700 households in Zixing City.
Emergency services were quick to respond, with 23,419 residents urgently evacuated to safety as the heavy rains wreaked havoc across the inland city.
As of now, road access, power, communication, and water services have been generally restored in all affected areas of Zixing, and disaster relief efforts are underway, according to authorities.
