Hungary's Women's Fencing Team Aims to Continue Olympic Legacy in Paris 🗡️
Fencing isn't just a sport in Hungary—it's a tradition. With 90 Olympic fencing medals, including 38 golds, Hungary stands as one of the greatest fencing nations in history. As the Paris 2024 Olympics approach, the women's fencing team is gearing up to add to that illustrious legacy.
\"When I put on the mask and they say 'Pre Alle,' I'm only focusing on the opponent,\" says Luca Szucs, the team's youngest member. \"I'm trying to shut down everything. It's only me and the opponent, and I think that is the key because I can think after every touch.\"
Szucs, making her Olympic debut, will display her lightning-fast saber skills alongside her seasoned teammates. Liza Pusztai, a saber gold medalist at the Summer Youth Olympics and a two-time team World Championship winner, brings a fiery spirit and electrifying style. Even she feels the fizz of anticipation: \"I'm a little bit nervous, but I'm looking forward to it because we've been working really hard for this moment, and maybe we can get a medal.\"
Sugár Battai, a senior member with multiple European and World Championship titles, shares the excitement. \"I wake up feeling great and excited about the competition. Instead of pressure, our World Championship wins motivate us,\" she says. \"As a young team, we're proving our potential, and I'm hopeful we'll stay focused and perform well at the Olympics.\"
🗡️ The secret to their success? A strong bond forged over years of training, fighting, and celebrating together. \"I'm pretty sure we couldn't have won two World Championships titles if we weren't this close,\" says Pusztai.
They've already showcased their skills on the Paris piste, with Szucs and Anna Márton reaching the quarter-finals in the individual saber event. Now, united as a team, they're determined to add another glorious chapter to Hungary's proud fencing history.
🇭🇺 Will Hungary's women's fencing team strike gold again? All eyes are on them as they prepare to make their mark in Paris.
