Get your umbrellas ready! ☔ July is gearing up to be a month of heavy rains and sizzling temperatures across China. The China Meteorological Administration announced on Thursday that many regions should brace for weather-related challenges in the coming weeks.
According to Jia Xiaolong, deputy director of the National Climate Center, rainfall in July is expected to be \"above average\" in parts of central and eastern China. Some areas might see a whopping 20-50% increase in precipitation compared to previous years! That's a whole lot of rain! 🌧️
Typhoons on the Horizon 🌊
But that's not all! Jia also mentioned that there could be one to two typhoons forming in the South China Sea and the northwest Pacific this month. Coastal regions, watch out! 🌪️
Heatwaves and High Temperatures 🔥
While some areas will be drenched, others will sizzle. High temperatures are predicted for parts of Jiangsu Province, Anhui Province, Shanghai, and more. July temperatures are expected to soar past 35 degrees Celsius (that's 95°F for our friends who use Fahrenheit). Time to stock up on sunscreen and cold drinks! 🕶️🥤
A Wild Weather Ride So Far 🌪️
This isn't the first of the extreme weather China has seen this year. May was the hottest on record with an average temperature of 17.7°C, the highest since records began in 1961. June didn't hold back either, with several regions setting new temperature records and heavy rains causing severe flooding in the Yangtze River basin.
Farmers on Alert 🌾
Jia Xiaolong urged farmers to take precautions to protect their crops from the potential effects of high temperatures and drought. This includes adjusting irrigation schedules and choosing heat-resistant crop varieties. Gotta keep those veggies safe! 🥦🌽
Looking Ahead 📖
The Blue Book on Climate Change of China 2024 was issued at the press briefing, highlighting the ongoing climate changes affecting the atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, and biosphere. The book warns of increasing extreme high-temperature events in China due to global warming.
So, whether you're in the path of the rain or the heat, stay prepared and stay safe! Maybe it's time to plan some indoor activities? 🎬📚
