Tragedy strikes in Papua New Guinea (PNG) as over 670 people are feared dead after a massive landslide rocked the South Pacific nation. 💔
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has revealed that the scale of the disaster is far greater than initially believed. Serhan Aktoprak, chief of the United Nations (UN) migration agency's mission in PNG, shared devastating details with the media on Sunday.
\"More than 150 houses are buried under debris that's six to eight meters deep,\" Aktoprak said in an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. \"We estimate that over 670 lives might have been lost.\"
The disaster unfolded in Enga province, where continuous rockfalls and landslides have transformed the landscape into a perilous zone. Authorities have evacuated about 1,250 survivors from the area, but the danger is far from over.
Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this catastrophic event. Stay tuned for more updates as the story develops. 🙏
